Viking Ocean Cruises

Viking Ocean Cruises is the ocean product of Viking, announced in 2013 and introduced to passengers with Viking Star in 2015. The wider Viking business began in 1997 with river voyages. These dates describe different stages rather than interchangeable founding years. The group is headed by publicly listed Viking Holdings Ltd. Its latest annual filing identifies principal executive offices in Pembroke, Bermuda; that corporate domicile is distinct from the brand's Norwegian heritage and its international sales and operating offices.

The ocean offering concentrates on destination-focused travel in ships with private verandas throughout. The June 2026 interim filing reports thirteen ocean ships, including Mira delivered in May. Viking repurchased Yidun, formerly Viking Sun, from CMV in March 2026. The twelve ships of the core English-language programme and Yidun's Mandarin programme belong in the current group fleet count. Historical joint-venture ownership must not be presented as its current position, and the former Sun is not counted twice.

River vessels and the two purpose-built expedition ships are separate products. Viking Polaris, the expedition vessel, is therefore different from any similarly named coastal ship. A directory of standard Viking ocean ships should not acquire every vessel carrying the corporate brand simply because the name appears in a combined brochure.

The atmosphere is designed for adults and cultural exploration. The current ocean offer excludes children under eighteen and casinos, while emphasising lectures, libraries, art and time in destinations. One included shore excursion per port is part of the advertised programme, with additional experiences offered separately. Alternative restaurants have no dining surcharge under the published ocean offer, but reservations are required. Check the actual booking market and fare for drinks, services and optional excursions.

English is the primary language for the core ocean programme, and the standard ocean FAQ identifies US dollars for the onboard account. Chinese-market Yidun departures require their own service check. These distinctions matter more than the language displayed by a booking website.

Future ships remain separate from today's active roster. Libra was floated out in March 2026 with delivery planned for November, while Astrea was floated out in September for later delivery. Their planned partial hydrogen and fuel-cell systems are not evidence that the current diesel-electric fleet sails every voyage without emissions. Compare the specific ship, itinerary, room category and included programme together when choosing a Viking ocean journey.
