About us Viking Libra
Viking Libra is an actual construction project for Viking Ocean Cruises, rather than an active passenger ship at the research date. Its documented float-out took place at Fincantieri's Ancona shipyard on 19 March 2026. That milestone establishes that a physical vessel exists, but it is neither delivery nor entry into commercial service. The planned handover remains November 2026; itinerary advertising cannot turn that forecast into a completed event.
The announced design provides 499 staterooms and a maximum of 998 guests in a ship approximately 239 metres long. Published construction releases use approximately 54,300 gross tonnage. This rounded project figure should not be confused with an individually certified final tonnage after completion. Likewise, a room count does not independently establish the precise double-occupancy capacity or the number of persons carried including crew.
The central engineering change is a hybrid propulsion system based partly on liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells. Fincantieri and Viking describe the intended ability to operate without emissions in selected sensitive areas. The word partly matters: the project announcement does not establish that every voyage, every energy source or the entire fuel supply chain is emission-free. Fuel availability and actual operating arrangements remain relevant to how the technology is used.
The project belongs to the enlarged Viking ocean development, following the generation introduced by Vela. It should not be treated as evidence that earlier Viking ships already have the same machinery. Private-veranda accommodation and a destination-focused adult offer connect the proposed product with the brand's established programme, while delivery trials and final technical particulars still require their own confirmation.
For travellers, an advertised future sailing is a planned product with details that may change before handover. Check the latest departure information, room category and applicable terms before arranging independent travel. This profile intentionally leaves the completed build year, service year, current flag, individual IMO identity, crew and total decks unresolved where primary confirmation is unavailable. A future delivery year is not recorded as an accomplished construction date. The ship will join active fleet totals only after its operating status is confirmed.

A dash means no independently verified value is available. Guest counts at double occupancy and maximum capacity are different measures. GT measures enclosed volume, not weight.
