Cruise passenger pier in Port Melbourne; verify berth and approved vehicle access.
Port reference
Melbourne's cruise passenger gateway is Station Pier in Port Melbourne. Ports Victoria gives the address as 6 Waterfront Place, rather than a location in the central business district. The pier remains an operational facility, with individual berths and controlled access during cruise handling. Read the assigned berth and passenger instructions before choosing a transfer. A waterfront meeting place outside the gatehouse is different from a vehicle being permitted onto the pier.
Coordinates identify the general port, not a passenger entrance. A dash means the value has not been independently verified.
The operator distinguishes dropping off embarking passengers from collecting disembarking travellers. A cruise line may approve vehicles to drop passengers at the pier after document checks, while private collections use the entrance car park. Ask about the arrangement for the particular sailing and any mobility assistance required between ship and pickup point. Public parking in Waterfront Place is limited and should not be treated as included long-term cruise parking.
Melbourne Airport connects with Southern Cross by SkyBus. The remaining city-to-port journey is separate. Tram 109 serves the Beacon Cove / Light Rail stop, followed by the permitted approach to Station Pier. Ports Victoria also describes a cruise-day express bus numbered 109, but that service has conditions, including the absence of a turnaround visit. Do not assume the bus operates for every embarkation or that tram and bus have identical boarding points.
For an arrival by mainline train, Southern Cross is a city interchange rather than a cruise terminal. Confirm the onward connection, luggage handling and ship's check-in window. The pier operator does not provide luggage storage, so an early arrival should be discussed with the cruise line rather than leaving bags unattended. A later flight departure likewise requires a storage or transfer plan independent of general sightseeing.
Federation Square, Birrarung Marr and the Royal Botanic Gardens provide city visits beyond Port Melbourne. Choose the actual destination and return route before leaving the terminal. A cruise call is not a guarantee that every garden activity or guided walk is available without booking.
The current Ports Victoria 2026–27 schedule supports repeated visits by Princess, Carnival, Celebrity, Viking, Holland America, Norwegian, Regent, Oceania and Azamara. An overnight stay remains one ship call, and the schedule's old outbound brand links are not treated as today's operator names. The coordinate is a general Melbourne reference, not the gatehouse.
