About us Viking Star

Viking Star opened Viking's ocean chapter in 2015. Fincantieri delivered the vessel at Marghera on 28 March, and the operator records its naming in Bergen on 17 May during Norway's Constitution Day celebrations. The events mark different stages of the ship's introduction. Its permanent IMO number is 9650418, identifying the same ship through later itinerary changes.

The original project established a model used across Viking's early ocean series: Scandinavian-inspired interiors, private verandas and public rooms arranged around destination-focused travel. Fincantieri credits SMC Design and Rottet Studios among the interior designers. The emphasis is useful when comparing Star with a ship designed around large amusement facilities. The operator's present ocean product is for guests aged eighteen and over and does not include a casino.

The current ship page advertises 930 guests, while the latest annual fleet table identifies that number as maximum passenger capacity. It is not the total number of people aboard, because crew are counted separately. Accommodation totals require caution: the original delivery release gives 465 cabins, but a later builder series sheet lists 473. The structured cabin field remains unresolved rather than treating both figures as interchangeable.

The machinery sheet describes electric propulsion motors supplied by diesel generator sets, with a published maximum speed of twenty knots. That is distinct from the lower service-speed figure in the same reference. Future hydrogen systems on later Viking newbuilds are not equipment claims for Star. A construction reference also does not establish the date of the most recent completed refurbishment.

For guests, private outdoor space is part of every advertised room category, but suite size and booking priorities differ. Compare the actual category instead of treating every veranda room as identical. The ocean programme advertises included shore excursions, lectures and access to alternative restaurants with reservations. Optional experiences and drinks still require a fare check. English is the core programme language and the standard onboard account uses US dollars. Choose the itinerary, room and included services together; a naming anniversary alone says little about how a particular voyage will feel.
