About us Viking Jupiter

Viking Jupiter is the sixth ship in Viking's early ocean series, delivered at Fincantieri's Ancona yard on 7 February 2019. Its naming ceremony took place later, on 15 January 2020 in Los Angeles, with Norwegian singer Sissel as godmother. The different years are not competing construction dates: the delivery preceded the formal naming. Its permanent IMO number is 9796262, and the current insurer identifies 47,861 gross tonnage.

Jupiter shares Orion's planetarium project rather than merely carrying an astronomical name. Digital Planetariums' contractor portfolio documents the 2019 installation of a six-metre dome and projection system during construction. This gives useful context for the ship's cultural and exploration focus. A technical project reference does not promise a particular film, timetable or daily presentation on every voyage, so consult the programme aboard for actual availability.

The current operator advertises private verandas throughout and 930 guests. The annual fleet table confirms that figure as maximum passenger capacity. Room categories vary in layout, size and booking priority. A veranda alone does not identify the right accommodation, especially when comparing a standard room with an Explorer Suite or the Owner's Suite. Review the exact plan and fare attached to the category rather than rely on a generic sister-ship image.

The builder's technical page gives 228.2 metres overall length and 28.8 metres moulded beam, with twenty knots identified as maximum speed. Diesel generators supply the electric propulsion motors. This is different from later hydrogen-capable newbuild projects and does not imply a full voyage powered by batteries. The latest completed refurbishment remains unverified, and the cabin inventory is left unresolved where builder and operator totals disagree.

Onboard life follows the current adult ocean product, with a minimum age of eighteen and no casino. Talks, reading and destination time frame the experience. The published offer includes alternative restaurant meals with reservations, while optional drinks and additional shore activities depend on the actual fare. English is the main programme language and the standard shipboard account uses US dollars. Choose Jupiter by the specific itinerary, room and services rather than treating its later naming date as the start of a different ship generation.
