About us Viking Mars

Viking Mars is the eighth vessel built for Viking's original ocean series, delivered at Fincantieri's Ancona yard on 12 May 2022. Its naming took place five days later in Valletta, Malta, with Lady Fiona Carnarvon as godmother. The permanent IMO number is 9833187. Its current insurance record identifies 47,842 gross tonnage and Bergen as port of registry.

The ship continues the early ocean layout rather than the later enlarged design for 998 guests. The current operator page advertises 930 passengers, and the annual fleet table defines that figure as maximum capacity. Private verandas are part of every advertised room category, but room dimensions, layout and booking priorities vary. A similar exterior profile across the fleet does not make every category or itinerary interchangeable.

Fincantieri describes Scandinavian-inspired interiors by Rottet Studios and SMC Design. Two pools include an infinity pool at the stern, with a sauna and snow grotto in the wellness area. Outdoor dining options complement the interior restaurants. These are useful distinctions when comparing the onboard experience, especially on an itinerary with longer sea passages. A venue's presence does not by itself establish the hours or availability of a particular service.

The individual technical reference gives 228.2 metres overall length, 28.8 metres moulded beam and an explicit twenty-knot maximum. Diesel generator sets supply electric propulsion motors. The astronomical name should not be taken as evidence that Mars has Orion and Jupiter's planetarium installation, nor should later fleet hydrogen projects be transferred to this ship. The latest completed major refurbishment has not been independently established. Cabin totals also remain unresolved where the builder's headline differs from its breakdown and the operator's published inventory.

Today's ocean offer is intended for adults aged eighteen and over, with no casino. Cultural talks, reading and destination visits frame the experience. Alternative restaurant meals are advertised without a dining surcharge but require reservations. Optional drinks and additional excursions depend on the booked fare. English is the main programme language, and the standard onboard account uses US dollars. Choose by the specific departure, room category and time in port rather than assume that a famous godmother's connection changes the practical service on every sailing.
