Port reference

Souda (Chania)

Souda is the cruise harbour serving the Chania area of western Crete. It is a working port outside Chania's historic Venetian waterfront. A voyage marketed as Chania does not establish that the ship is beside the old-town promenade. Confirm Souda and the assigned passenger quay before choosing a transfer or planning a return from an independent city visit.

Coordinates identify the general port, not a passenger entrance. A dash means the value has not been independently verified.

The regional harbour management organisation identifies Souda within its port responsibilities. Its published cruise programme distinguishes calls labelled Souda from calls labelled Chania. Those entries are not combined as if they used one terminal. The organisation's administrative office in Chania is also different from a cruise passenger entrance. Use the sailing-specific gate and meeting place rather than a generic office address.

Chania Airport is the relevant local air gateway. The airport operator lists bus services towards Chania and other regional destinations, with a stop across from departures on the terminal's eastern side. A city bus connection is followed by the actual route to Souda if that is your boarding point. Confirm any connection or arrange road transport that names the cruise terminal. No universal airport bus directly to every gangway is assumed.

For the city visit, the municipality's transport information identifies Souda as the passenger port and provides regional travel contacts. The bus or taxi return should target Souda rather than the Venetian harbour. No direct passenger railway from the airport or old town to the cruise facility is independently verified here. Check luggage and accessibility arrangements for the complete transfer, including the controlled port section.

Chania's old town and Venetian harbour provide an excursion away from the working cruise port. The archaeological museum is another separate city destination. A beach visit or travel farther into Crete needs additional time and a return plan. Choose an outing around the actual call window instead of treating a short map distance as a promise of a quick harbour crossing.

The regional authority's 2026 programme supports repeat Souda visits by the linked cruise brands. Entries for Chania's other waterfront are excluded, as are single visits without repeat evidence. Announced cruise-area works are not described as already completed. The official location code is GRSDH; the coordinate is a general Souda reference, not the ship's passenger gate.
