About us Viking Vela

Viking Vela introduced an enlarged generation of Viking ocean ships when Fincantieri delivered it at Ancona on 3 December 2024. The operator then named the ship on 5 December in Trieste, with Fincantieri project manager Ivana Elice as godmother. Its permanent IMO number is 9852432. Current insurer Steamship Mutual identifies 53,769 gross tonnage, distinct from the approximate 54,300 figure used in promotional construction releases.

The design maintains private verandas and Scandinavian-inspired accommodation while increasing the published guest limit to 998 in 499 staterooms. Those are current operator figures rather than a capacity inferred from the number of rooms. Compared with the earlier 930-guest generation, it is a larger ship with more accommodation, so a familiar brand interior does not mean identical dimensions or cabin categories.

The current page gives 784 feet length and 101 feet beam, approximately 239 and 30.8 metres respectively. These are rounded published dimensions, not newly invented centimetre-level measurements. A separate verified maximum-speed or full machinery specification has not been established from the primary sources reviewed. In particular, the later hydrogen systems planned for Libra and Astrea should not be attributed to Vela merely because the ships belong to a related development programme.

The naming event also marked the shipbuilder's long partnership with Viking. Elice's engineering role provides a different connection from a celebrity naming association. It is a historical distinction, not an onboard service or a guarantee of a specific itinerary. The first-season Mediterranean and Northern Europe programme should likewise be read as the introductory deployment, with the actual booked sailing used for current travel plans.

Onboard accommodation runs from veranda rooms to larger suites, with different layouts and reservation priorities. Compare the specific category instead of assuming that every private balcony comes with the same dining bookings or extra services. Today's ocean programme is for adults aged eighteen and over and has no casino. Cultural presentations, reading and destination visits frame the offer. Alternative restaurant dining requires reservations even when the meal has no surcharge. English is the principal language and the standard account uses US dollars; optional drinks and excursions depend on the actual fare.
