About us Viking Sea

Viking Sea is the second ship in Viking's ocean series, delivered by Fincantieri at Ancona on 24 March 2016. Its naming followed in Greenwich on the River Thames on 5 May, with Karine Hagen as godmother. A delivery date and a naming ceremony are different milestones; neither should be confused with a later refurbishment. The ship's permanent IMO number is 9725421.

The current operator describes an all-veranda ship for 930 guests. This maintains the accommodation concept introduced by Viking Star while making Sea an individual vessel with its own history and schedule. Private balconies are common to the advertised room categories, but suite layouts, floor area and reservation priorities vary. Use the exact category and deck plan for a room decision rather than assume that a shared fleet design makes every accommodation option identical.

Fincantieri's delivery account describes Scandinavian-inspired interiors, two pools including an aft infinity pool, and a spa combining a sauna with a snow grotto. These provide different settings between port calls. The present ocean product also emphasises cultural presentations, a library and included excursions rather than a casino or children's programme. Minimum age is eighteen under the current offer.

The builder's machinery reference identifies diesel generators and electric propulsion motors, with an explicit maximum speed of twenty knots. It is not proof of battery or hydrogen propulsion. Likewise, plans for hydrogen on Libra and Astrea should not be transferred backwards to Sea. Technical references disagree on accommodation inventory: the delivery release gives 465 cabins and a later builder series sheet gives 473. Current insurance and builder tonnage entries also differ, so these unresolved totals remain visible instead of being forced into a precise-looking number.

The latest annual report confirms maximum passenger capacity of 930. Crew are not added to that guest field, and the number is not labelled as verified double occupancy. Standard English-market ocean accounts use US dollars. Alternative restaurant meals are advertised without a dining surcharge, with reservations required; optional drinks and excursions depend on the booked fare. Compare route, room category and actual time ashore together when deciding whether Sea's style suits the holiday you want.
