About us Viking Yidun
Viking Yidun is the former Viking Sun, delivered by Fincantieri at Ancona on 25 September 2017. Its permanent IMO number is 9725433. The current Steamship Mutual record identifies 47,842 gross tonnage and Bergen as port of registry. Previous commercial names also include Zhao Shang Yi Dun. These names identify one vessel, rather than additional ships to add to a fleet total.
Its ownership history needs dates. Viking sold the ship to Chinese joint venture CMV in 2021 and repurchased it in March 2026, as confirmed in the June interim report. The current insurance record names a Tianjin leasing company as registered owner. That financing registration is a different concept from the group's economic acquisition. Describing Yidun simply as a current CMV-owned vessel would therefore repeat an outdated position from the 2025 annual accounts.
Yidun serves a Mandarin-language programme. The Chinese operator announced departure from Shanghai on 5 June 2026 for a sixty-day intercontinental discovery itinerary across Asia, Africa and Europe. Its August announcement records the inauguration of the Mandarin European cruise programme in Tarragona on 3 August. These are dated deployment milestones, not a guarantee that every later voyage follows the same route or lasts sixty days.
The advertised maximum is 930 guests. All-veranda accommodation, cultural interpretation and time ashore form the central proposition. Fincantieri's original delivery description includes two pools, an infinity pool aft and a spa with sauna and snow grotto. Those original facilities provide design context; current access, restaurant arrangements and included services should be checked against the Mandarin departure's own offer.
The ship uses the early series' diesel-electric design rather than the hydrogen systems of later construction projects. A precise current cabin total remains unresolved because builder totals and category sums conflict. Current crew complement, total physical decks and a completed major refurbishment are also unverified. A repaint or transfer does not establish a major refit. Travellers should compare the actual language programme, itinerary and room category. Core English-fleet account currency and booking conditions should not automatically be transferred to this separate market programme.
