Port reference

Marseille

Marseille's cruise port should not be confused with the Vieux-Port visitor waterfront. The main Marseille Provence Cruise Terminal complex, usually shortened to MPCT, is in the northern port area at Môle Léon Gourret. Smaller ships can also use J4 near La Joliette. The actual terminal or quay in your documents determines which approach is appropriate.

Coordinates identify the general port, not a passenger entrance. A dash means the value has not been independently verified.

Porte4 is the published access for the main MPCT terminals. Arriving at the gate does not necessarily place you beside the ship: the tourism office describes a further distance that varies with the assigned boarding position. Use the cruise company's current arrival instructions and the internal signs for your vessel rather than assuming every terminal shares one passenger doorway.

Marseille Provence Airport has an airport-to-Saint-Charles coach connection, but the tourism office explicitly distinguishes this from a direct airport-to-cruise-terminal service. A confirmed cruise transfer or taxi can be another option. Compare complete journeys, including luggage collection and the last port leg, instead of using the airport-to-city travel time as your check-in arrival estimate.

From Saint-Charles, the published public-transport approach uses metroM2 to La Joliette and cruise-day bus35T towards Porte4. Check RTM's current service for your travel day. A separate port shuttle links the La Joliette side with a meeting point inside the port, and the cruise association warns that passengers are not collected directly at the ship's exit. These are distinct connections with their own boarding points.

The local cruise association's dated programme records repeated MSC, Costa, AIDA, Norwegian, Oceania, Viking and Royal Caribbean calls. It also identifies transit visits and passenger-change calls, so the presence of a ship does not alone establish a bookable Marseille departure. Berth assignments can vary within the same brand's programme.

Vieux-Port, the Panier district and the Mucem offer different city-side visits once you have reached the urban waterfront. A visit from J4 can have a different transfer requirement from a ship at MPCT. Account for the return route and all-aboard time before choosing an attraction. The coordinate here is Marseille's official general location reference, not the MPCT entrance or a guarantee that every cruise ship is within a short walk of the old harbour.

Getting there

Airport connections

The airport coach reaches Saint-Charles rather than the cruise terminals. Add the terminal-specific connection or book a confirmed road/cruise transfer.

Rail connections

From Saint-Charles the tourism guide describes metroM2 to La Joliette and cruise-day bus35T towards Porte4. Verify current RTM service and the remaining internal approach.

Local transport and final connection

The separate port shuttle has an internal meeting point and does not collect directly at every ship exit. Match the return stop and terminal to your actual berth.

Cruise lines with documented programmes

Connections reflect published programmes, not a guarantee for a particular sailing. Pending and future calls can change.
