About us Westerdam

Capacity note: the guest figures discussed below come from older published specifications. The corporate fleet table dated August 2026 gives a different count, so a current comparable capacity remains unconfirmed.

Westerdam is a Vista-class Holland America Line ship built by Fincantieri at Marghera and delivered in 2004. Its permanent identity is IMO 9226891. The vessel came after Zuiderdam and Oosterdam and before Noordam in the operator's four-ship Vista sequence. Earlier ships carrying the Westerdam name have different histories; the delivery year and IMO number provide a more reliable reference than a repeated name.

A particularly relevant update for current travellers is the completed Singapore yard visit in January 2026. The operator confirmed that guests returned on 18 January for a fourteen-day Far East Discovery sailing. This was an actual return to service, not an announcement of a future renovation. The Crow's Nest gained a bandstand stage and associated sound and lighting changes intended for smaller performances, talks and other activities.

Accommodation also changed. Eleven ocean-view rooms were added on decks one and seven. Bathroom improvements affected particular accommodation groups, including Verandah rooms on deck eight, rather than a blanket statement that every bathroom was replaced. Guests comparing cabin reviews should therefore identify both category and date. An older room photograph may be accurate for its time while no longer describing the booked accommodation.

The ship measures 285.23 metres overall, with a moulded beam of 32.25 metres. The current insurer records 82,862 gross tonnage, superseding the much older original builder value used in some technical summaries. Original room counts likewise do not establish the present total after successive changes. The historical 1,964 double-occupancy guests remains clearly identified as that capacity basis rather than a newly calculated passenger maximum.

The January works and future Holland America Evolution programme are separate projects. Westerdam's inclusion in Evolution does not mean that every attraction promoted for the future fleet transformation is already aboard. For a practical comparison, pair a current cabin plan with the itinerary and confirmed amenities for the relevant departure. That approach captures the value of the completed improvements while keeping later proposals separate.
