About us Rotterdam

Capacity note: the guest figures discussed below come from older published specifications. The corporate fleet table dated August 2026 gives a different count, so a current comparable capacity remains unconfirmed.

Rotterdam is the third Pinnacle-class ship built for Holland America Line and the seventh vessel to carry this name for the operator. This profile concerns the ship delivered in 2021, identified by IMO 9837470. Older accounts of another Rotterdam can describe a substantially different vessel. Fincantieri constructed the present ship at Marghera in Italy; its relationship to Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam is a useful starting point for comparing layouts without assuming every room or venue is identical.

Delivery and passenger service were separate events. The handover was announced on 30 July 2021, while the maiden voyage actually departed Amsterdam on 20 October. That fourteen-day Atlantic crossing headed to Fort Lauderdale. The later naming ceremony therefore does not determine the year of entry into service. When reading launch coverage, distinguish a proposed departure from the operator's report confirming that passengers had sailed.

The technical record gives 99,935 gross tonnage, an overall length of 299.79 metres and a moulded beam of 35 metres. Gross tonnage describes enclosed volume rather than ship weight; moulded beam should not be compared casually with a maximum width including projections. The published 2,668 guests is a double-occupancy measure. It is not an independently confirmed maximum passenger limit. The propulsion arrangement uses diesel-generated electricity and two pods; it should not be described as LNG propulsion.

An April 2026 yard visit is a completed update. The operator confirmed a return to guest service on 26 April following two weeks in the Netherlands. For present-day planning, that later report is more useful than launch-era entertainment descriptions. It records adjustments to music spaces and selected accommodation, rather than replacement of the whole vessel's original design.

In particular, the accommodation changes affect selected Vista Suites. Travellers sharing a room should check the capacity and bed arrangement of their exact category instead of assuming all suites gained the same sleeping provision. Likewise, an advertised programme does not specify the performance timetable for every sailing. Use the applicable deck plan, cabin description and booking conditions together when comparing Rotterdam with its sisters.
