About us Wind Surf

The contemporary owner annual report records original delivery in 1990. Wind Surf joined Windstar in 1998 after its earlier identity as Club Med I. That acquisition and renaming are separate from original construction and passenger service. The ship belongs to the Wind Class product family, but is substantially larger than Wind Star and Wind Spirit and should not be treated as their identical twin.

Its five masts and seven sails distinguish it from the smaller four-masted pair. Auxiliary diesel-electric machinery supports the sailing arrangement. Wind availability and the itinerary influence how the vessel operates, so sails are not a guarantee of an engine-free cruise. Wind-assisted performance should also remain separate from a consistently available maximum-speed claim.

The operator limits Wind Surf to no more than 342 guests across 171 staterooms. Its current deck document identifies 213 crew. Individual insurance records confirm IMO 8700785, Bahamas registry and gross tonnage of 14745. These figures have different meanings: guest capacity, accommodation inventory and enclosed-volume tonnage are not interchangeable measures of scale.

Published length is 188.8 metres including the bowsprit, distinct from the shorter waterline length. The measurement basis matters when comparing sailing yachts with conventional cruise ships. The metric overall figure is consistent across the operator's documents, despite a differing rounded feet value in one current sheet.

The first phase of the present refurbishment programme took place in 2024. The operator describes changes to selected suites and public spaces. A second stage is scheduled for December 2026 and remains future work at this review date. Planned restaurant replacement and further accommodation changes are therefore not presented as already completed features.

For a practical choice, examine the reserved room, boarding arrangements and actual route together. The operator specifies stair access for boarding; accessibility needs should be checked individually. A larger sailing yacht can offer a different balance of social spaces and accommodation from its smaller fleetmates. Confirm dining conditions, embarkation instructions and port hours before organising independent transport. Those details explain the daily experience more directly than the broad sailing-yacht label.
