About us Oceania Insignia

Oceania Insignia is the 1998-built R-Class ship identified by permanent IMO number 9156462. The Marshall Islands investigation authority confirms construction at Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire. Its earlier names include R One and Columbus 2. Those names refer to the same hull; the former Columbus 2 is not an additional current Hapag-Lloyd vessel to add to another fleet.

The ship's Oceania story includes its 2004 introduction and return after a later charter. The operator's refurbishment FAQ confirms completion of its OceaniaNEXT re-inspiration in December 2018. That is a completed historical improvement, distinct from the future work announced for its next operating chapter. Current individual ship facts list 340 suites and rooms and 30,277 gross tonnage.

Phoenix Reisen announced on 22 October 2026 that Insignia will become Alvara for its November 2027 programme. Planned yard work and the new German-market product remain future events. Today's Oceania dining, currency and service arrangements should not be replaced with Alvara's proposed conditions before the transfer. Similarly, a future Bahamas flag reference does not establish Insignia's current registration.

The current Oceania offer emphasises a residential atmosphere and dining rather than a large resort-style attraction complex. The Grand Dining Room, specialty venues and informal meals provide different settings, with the actual reservation allocation and optional experiences depending on the booked offer. Inside, oceanview, veranda and suite accommodation should be compared by layout and services instead of assuming that a common R-Class origin makes all categories identical.

Its history also includes the generator-room fire at Castries on 11 December 2014. The flag-state investigation records three fatalities among engine-room personnel and technicians, with passengers evacuated ashore. This is a documented past casualty, not evidence for a claim about present operating safety or completion of every subsequent recommendation.

The operator explicitly identifies 670 guests on a double-occupancy basis; this does not establish today's certified maximum passenger number. The standard onboard account uses US dollars. New bookings follow the January 2026 adults-only transition, with pre-existing reservations involving minors honoured. Choose the actual departure and room, keeping current operations separate from the planned 2027 transfer.
