About us Nieuw Amsterdam

Capacity note: the guest figures discussed below come from older published specifications. The corporate fleet table dated August 2026 gives a different count, so a current comparable capacity remains unconfirmed.

Nieuw Amsterdam is the second Signature-class ship in Holland America Line's fleet, delivered by Fincantieri at Marghera in 2010. It follows Eurodam and predates the larger Pinnacle generation. The current ship carries IMO 9378450; earlier vessels with the same historical name belong to different eras. Nieuw Statendam is another present-day fleet member, not an alternative name for this ship. Check that distinction before relying on photographs, cabin diagrams or a review found by name alone.

A particularly useful onboard distinction is Morimoto By Sea. Nieuw Amsterdam received the dedicated restaurant during its December 2023 work period, while the wider fleet also developed other Morimoto formats. A permanent restaurant, a pop-up dinner and a sushi counter are different products. Travellers choosing specifically for this dining experience should confirm the format, booking availability and charges attached to their sailing rather than assume that all appearances of the chef's name mean the same menu or room.

The actual yard visit in Freeport is documented by the logistics contractor as a completed December 2023 project. That evidence is separate from the larger Evolution programme subsequently announced for six ships, including Nieuw Amsterdam. Future additions in that programme are not presented here as facilities already installed. A later sailing may consequently require a different deck plan from the one used for a present booking.

The builder's individual technical page gives 285.3 metres overall and a 32.3-metre moulded beam. Diesel engines supply electricity to two ABB propulsion pods. A published service speed is not treated as a verified maximum. The available tonnage and cabin totals conflict with other operator material, so those figures remain unresolved in this profile instead of being copied from Eurodam.

The published double-occupancy capacity is 2,106 guests. This helps position the vessel within the operator's fleet, but it does not describe the permitted occupancy of every room. Use the actual cabin category, dining arrangements and applicable itinerary together when comparing this Signature ship with its newer Pinnacle relatives.
