About us HANSEATIC spirit

HANSEATIC spirit completed Hapag-Lloyd Cruises' three-ship expedition series. VARD documented handover on 28 June 2021, with Langsten named as the outfitting yard; the operator's history places the start of guest travel in 2021 as well. The permanent IMO number is 9857640. It must not be confused with another vessel appearing under a similar name and a different IMO in some search results.

The ship shares the HANSEATIC expedition platform with nature and inspiration, while maintaining its own service and maintenance history. A shared class is useful for comparing broad layout ideas, but it does not prove that a change on one sister has occurred on all three. Nor does the word expedition make a polar departure interchangeable with a warm-water exploration cruise.

Its first major docking period was completed in 2026 at Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven. The operator's retrospective describes work on public areas, including the French restaurant l'esprit, Observation Lounge and reception. This supports a completed refurbishment year, without making the intervention a newbuild or implying that every accommodation was reconstructed. It is a later event than the 2023 and 2024 docking periods documented for the earlier sisters.

The current expedition offer permits at most 230 guests generally and at most 199 on Antarctic expeditions. Those operating limits belong with the itinerary conditions. The builder lists 120 passenger cabins and a moulded beam of 22 metres, while both its detailed specification and the matching Hamburg port entry give 15,651 gross tonnage. A 17.1-knot maximum is explicitly distinguished from 14-knot service speed. Conflicting precise overall lengths are documented and left unresolved.

For the traveller, the important comparison joins destination access, room location and the time expected ashore. Check the voyage's current language and participation arrangements instead of relying on older launch descriptions. German and English are now the fleet's published onboard languages. The smaller guest count can shape the experience, but it does not remove weather dependence or guarantee a particular landing on a particular day.
