About us Costa Smeralda

Costa Smeralda entered service in 2019 after construction at Meyer Turku in Finland. It was the yard's first LNG-powered cruise ship. The builder identifies a Costa XL design related to AIDAnova, while expressly distinguishing the interior. Shared engineering does not mean that a guest can use an AIDA or Carnival deck description as a map of Smeralda's public spaces.

The three-level Colosseo is a central entertainment setting. Around the ship, names such as Trastevere and Piazza di Spagna refer to Italian places and help give the layout its identity. Sanremo Theatre supplies another performance venue, with the actual daily programme deciding the evening. The large central gathering space and a theatre are different environments, so compare the show and location rather than only the overall number of entertainment seats.

For outside time, the promenade and Piazza di Spagna create alternatives to staying beside one pool. La Spiaggia is another named leisure setting. Cabin choice should take the location of public spaces into account: a balcony does not by itself establish privacy, a clear view or a quiet position. Use the actual room category and its deck reference instead of borrowing a sister ship's arrangement.

Dining spans included meal settings and separately booked experiences. Archipelago is a particular fine-dining option; casual food and a speciality reservation should not be counted as the same kind of service. Review what the fare or package includes and decide which meals matter before paying for additional allowances. Family activities also have age-based conditions, so the presence of a children's area is not a promise of unrestricted childcare.

The individual insurer and builder agree on 185,010 GT and IMO 9781889, with Italian registry. Technical dimensions are 337 metres overall and 42 metres moulded breadth. The operator's detailed reference distinguishes 5,224 lower berths from 6,554 total guest beds, with 2,612 rooms. Those figures must remain separate when comparing capacity. Published crew references conflict and are left unresolved. LNG and marine gas oil are the documented fuel options; LNG operation should not be described as eliminating every emission. Completed work in Marseille in 2025 included Sushino, conversion of the museum space and carpet installation in public areas and cabins, according to the contractor. That defined scope does not imply replacement of every room.
