About us Aurora

Aurora represents the older, smaller end of the current P&O Cruises fleet. Meyer Werft delivered it in 2000, describing it as a development of the earlier Oriana rather than a duplicate of today's larger ships. It remains a separate vessel, identified by IMO 9169524. That identity matters because unrelated ships share the Aurora name; the insurer's matching cruise-ship entry records 76,152 gross tonnage.

The builder describes an atrium with a waterfall sculpture, a covered pool and a selection of traditional indoor venues, including a cinema, theatre and library. The operator's current overview lists three swimming pools and nine guest decks. Those guest areas are not the same count as the shipyard's fourteen decks. For someone comparing a quieter indoor sea day with a large activity-resort programme, actual spaces offer a better starting point than a broad label such as classic.

Aurora has also received later maintenance. Damen's retrospective account of a separate Regal Princess project in April 2025 explicitly says the yard had recently completed P&O Aurora, involving 40,000 working hours over two weeks. That contractor evidence supports a completed 2025 shipyard intervention. It does not prove a new engine installation on Aurora: the engine exchange described in that article belongs to Regal Princess and must not be transferred between ships.

The age policy requires a voyage-specific check. Selected Aurora departures from December 2026 will welcome guests of all ages; the operator's list includes the four-night Rotterdam voyage R621 departing 11 December. This future opening is not an immediate fleet-wide policy. Confirm the actual sailing before booking either a family holiday or an adult-focused escape.

Meyer Werft lists a length of 270 metres and a moulded beam of 32.2 metres. Its original 939 cabins and 1,878-passenger design figures are historical construction particulars, not independently reconciled current inventories. The corporate fleet table gives another rounded guest capacity. This profile therefore leaves current cabin and occupancy totals open. Compare the actual room grade, itinerary and applicable conditions, while keeping the smaller ship's public-space layout in view.
