About us Sun Princess
Sun Princess introduced the Sphere class to passenger service in February 2024. Its first voyage departed Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, on 28 February after earlier departures were cancelled. The October date found in some ship summaries describes its North American introduction, rather than the beginning of the ship's operating life. This is the new LNG-powered vessel, not the older Sun Princess built in 1995.
The design brings two different glazed spaces into everyday life on board. The Piazza occupies the outward-curving central sphere, giving the social hub a different relationship with the sea from an enclosed atrium. The Dome is higher up and changes between daytime relaxation and scheduled entertainment. A show in the Dome and an evening in Princess Arena are separate experiences; check the daily programme when deciding which to attend.
Dining needs some planning because a restaurant name does not establish that a meal is included. The Eatery, International Café and the main dining rooms provide alternatives to a speciality reservation. Love by Britto, Makoto Ocean and Umai Teppanyaki represent different paid dining experiences, with package terms affecting the eventual bill. Compare the actual booking benefits before treating a restaurant allowance as unlimited access.
Accommodation also requires attention to the named category. Sanctuary Collection identifies selected accommodation with additional benefits; an ordinary balcony booking should not be assumed to carry the same privileges. Connecting and accessible rooms appear in the operator inventory, but availability and suitability still need confirmation for the particular reservation. The youth programme separately identifies Firefly Park, Neon Grove and The Underground for different age groups.
Builder and insurer identify 177,882 GT and the individual IMO 9863118. The builder's technical sheet gives 345.5 metres overall and 42.5 metres moulded breadth, rather than the width across projecting structures. Published capacity is 4,300 lower berths with 1,600 crew and 2,157 guest rooms. Lower berths are a comparison basis, not the verified maximum number of guests when extra beds are occupied.
