About us Queen Mary 2
Queen Mary 2 is Cunard's ocean liner, distinguished by the operator from its other three cruise ships. Chantiers de l'Atlantique built the vessel at Saint-Nazaire, France, with delivery in December 2003 and the maiden passenger voyage beginning on 12 January 2004. The permanent IMO identity is 9241061. The earlier Queen Mary is a different vessel; the number in this ship's name is part of its identity, not a cabin or itinerary designation.
The builder gives 345 metres in length and a width of 41 metres. Current insurance particulars record 149,215 gross tonnage, reflecting a different configuration from the original yard's historical tonnage and room totals. Those construction-era figures should not automatically describe the present ship. Its liner role explains the emphasis on regular Transatlantic Crossings, although the exact voyage dates and endpoints still belong to the published itinerary.
A crossing offers a different planning pattern from a cruise with frequent port calls. On a sea-focused journey, cabin choice and the spaces you expect to use aboard become central to the holiday. Cunard highlights the library, dancing and enrichment programme as part of the experience. Their presence does not establish a fixed timetable or guarantee a particular speaker on every voyage. Read the programme for your own departure and connect it with your preferred pace.
Completed 2023 work at Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam is separate from the new refurbishment announced for spring 2027 at Brest. The later project remains future work. Proposed accommodation and public-space changes should therefore not be presented as already available. An older review can also predate the completed 2023 visit, so its photographs and descriptions need a date as well as a room category.
The accommodation's main restaurant follows Cunard's category structure, making room selection about more than area alone. Current passenger-capacity figures require further reconciliation before they can be used as comparable lower-berth or maximum statistics. No total is calculated from the original cabin inventory. Compare the chosen sailing, cabin, dining arrangements and fare conditions while keeping completed work distinct from the next planned chapter.
