About us Nordkapp
Nordkapp is the 1996-built coastal passenger ship named after Norway's North Cape. Its name identifies the vessel rather than guaranteeing that every short booking includes an excursion to the cape. The operator records a maiden voyage to the Shetland Islands in 1996. Shipbuilder Ulstein's historical account also documents the naming of Nordkapp at neighbouring Kværner Kleven on 23 March that year, alongside Polarlys's ceremony at Ulstein.
The current ship is identified by IMO 9107772. Gard's insurance record gives the Norwegian flag and 11,386 gross tonnage, agreeing with operator specifications. Those specifications describe 123.3 metres length, 19.5 metres beam and 209 cabins. An explicit maximum of 590 guests in the FAQ agrees with the latest annual report. The separate 473-bed number is not a double-occupancy definition and should not replace that guest limit.
Hurtigruten lists interior work in 2016 and a later refurbishment in 2022. These dates describe an existing ship's development, not successive newbuild deliveries. The annual fleet table identifies Nordkapp as non-hybrid. The operator's 2026 sustainability summary says all its vessels have shore-power connection capability; this is a different feature from battery propulsion and depends on a compatible port installation.
Onboard public spaces include a forward bar, panoramic lounge and a reception area with expedition-team services, shop and conference room. A sauna, fitness room and two outdoor hot tubs give options between calls. Torget, Kysten and Brygga supply different dining settings, while Multe adds bakery and ice-cream choices. The venue list is useful when comparing ships, but the actual fare determines what is included.
The Original Coastal Express carries local passengers and cargo alongside visitors on a year-round network. Port-to-port travel and a longer coastal holiday therefore share the same working timetable. English and Norwegian are used for announcements and lectures, and the onboard account uses Norwegian kroner. Choose the cabin and itinerary together, allowing for the duration of each stop instead of assuming that every call provides an extended shore visit.
