About us Costa Serena

Costa Serena was delivered by Fincantieri at Genoa Sestri Ponente in May 2007. Its original interior referred to the gods of classical mythology, an identity that remained the starting point for a substantial 2025 refurbishment. The present ship should therefore be understood through both its construction history and later changes, rather than through an untouched launch-era brochure.

The refurbishment reinterpreted the mythological theme with a contemporary pop style. Costa describes the atrium as a Temple of Light, turning a central circulation space into a design feature. The new Pummid'Oro setting includes a modern Atlas holding a tomato; the Sushino setting uses a mermaid motif. These are specific visual references to the changed interior, rather than evidence that the ship has acquired the layout of a newer Costa vessel.

A contractor's completed-work list independently records the Shenzhen project, including Sunset Lounge, the pizzeria, arcade, suites and main pool. That scope helps establish what changed without claiming every cabin was replaced. When considering accommodation, inspect the actual category and location. A refurbished public area does not by itself establish a new room layout or the same specification in every suite.

Archipelago, Pummid'Oro and Sushino provide distinct meal options. Compare the restaurant conditions with the chosen fare, particularly where a separate booking or charge applies. Children's areas and teenage activities should likewise be evaluated by their rules and programme. The operator's post-refit plans place Serena in South America for the 2026–27 season; a future itinerary is not proof that every scheduled port call has already taken place.

Insurance records IMO 9343132, Italian registry and a current 114,261 GT. This differs from the older 114,147 figure frequently repeated elsewhere and the builder's rounded 114,500. Length is 290.2 metres and moulded breadth 35.5 metres. Current operator references list 1,500 rooms, 1,100 crew and 3,780 maximum guests. A separately verified current lower-berth figure remains open. Seventeen total decks must be distinguished from fourteen guest decks in the fleet presentation. The original diesel-electric specification gives 23 knots maximum, not a promise of the speed maintained throughout a cruise.
