Port reference

Venice

Venice cruise planning starts with two different questions: where you check in and where the ship is berthed. The name Venice can cover arrangements involving Marittima, Marghera, Fusina or San Basilio. Voyages advertised as Venice can also use Chioggia, a separate town. Do not select a hotel, taxi destination or railway connection from the marketing city name alone.

Coordinates identify the general port, not a passenger entrance. A dash means the value has not been independently verified.

Venezia Terminal Passeggeri explains that passengers for a ship at Marghera first reach their assigned terminal at Marittima for check-in, then continue by dedicated shuttle. It describes different on-site arrangements for Fusina, Marittima and San Basilio calls. These distinctions matter more than a general map showing where a vessel happens to be alongside.

MSC's current Venice–Marghera instructions confirm the Marittima-first procedure for its embarking passengers. They give the passenger-terminal address as Marittima Fabbricato248 and explicitly tell guests not to go independently to the Marghera ship before processing. Follow the latest documents for your particular sailing, since another operator or location may use another procedure.

Venice Marco Polo Airport is on the mainland. Arrange an onward transfer to the confirmed passenger-processing site, rather than simply requesting the ship's industrial berth. A road transfer or a city bus connection can form part of the journey. Reaching Piazzale Roma still leaves the terminal approach and any subsequent operator shuttle to organise.

Venezia Santa Lucia is the historic-city railway arrival point, while Venezia Mestre is on the mainland. MSC describes an approach from Santa Lucia via Piazzale Roma and the People Mover to Marittima, with Mestre plus a taxi as another option. Choose the station and last leg together, accounting for luggage and bridges rather than assuming a level train-to-ship walk.

MSC publishes recurring Venice–Marghera departures. Viking's itineraries labelled Venice–Chioggia illustrate why the actual port suffix should also be checked, without treating Chioggia as the Marittima terminal. St Mark's Square, the Grand Canal and the historic city are separate sightseeing destinations. Fit any visit around the confirmed processing location, luggage arrangements and return time. The coordinate here is the general UNECE Venice location reference and must not be used as a universal cruise check-in point.

Terminals and landing places

Venezia Marittima — passenger processing

Marittima Fabbricato 248, 30135 Venezia

MSC Venice–Marghera check-in location before the dedicated ship transfer; assigned building still matters.

Cruise Terminal Fusina

Via Autostrade del Mare, Fusina

Different passenger location; VTP describes on-site check-in for ships assigned here.

San Basilio

San Basilio, Venezia

Separate passenger terminal for smaller vessels; follow the sailing-specific assignment.

Getting there

Airport connections

From Venice Marco Polo Airport organise a transfer to the confirmed check-in location. For MSC Venice–Marghera this is Marittima before the dedicated onward shuttle, not an independent arrival at the ship.

Rail connections

For Marittima, Santa Lucia connects through Piazzale Roma and the People Mover; Mestre plus taxi is another option described by MSC. Other assigned locations need their own route.

Local transport and final connection

Keep check-in site, ship berth and city sightseeing destinations separate. Marghera transfers follow operator processing; Fusina and San Basilio use different local arrangements.

Connections reflect published programmes, not a guarantee for a particular sailing. Pending and future calls can change.
