Port reference

Katakolon

Katakolon is a cruise port on the western Peloponnese and a gateway for visits to Ancient Olympia. The harbour town and the archaeological destination are separate places. A call marketed as Olympia does not put the ship beside the ancient stadium. Decide whether to stay near the waterfront or arrange an inland excursion before selecting a return meeting point.

Coordinates identify the general port, not a passenger entrance. A dash means the value has not been independently verified.

The municipal port fund identifies three cruise piers and controlled passenger operations. Its passenger-services page does not establish a large terminal building as a universal feature. Use the ship's assigned quay and current access instructions. A nearby taxi or bus stop is not a substitute for checking the final route from the gangway, particularly if the berth changes or assistance is needed.

Hellenic Train publishes a Katakolo–Ancient Olympia visitor route. It offers a rail option for the inland trip, with a separate walk between the ship and station. Consult the operator for departures that fit the actual call date and the return deadline. The advertised journey duration is only the train segment; it does not include disembarkation, station access, admission to the archaeological site or waiting for the return service.

Araxos is a regional airport in the western Peloponnese, requiring a road transfer to Katakolon. The aviation authority places it in the Patras region rather than inside the cruise port. Check available flights and the complete onward journey before planning an embarkation. No direct airport-to-cruise train connection is independently verified here. A much longer arrival via Athens needs a different land-transfer plan.

Katakolon's waterfront offers a local alternative to travelling inland. The Museum of Ancient Greek Technology is another town visit identified by the railway operator. Olympia requires additional travel and admission arrangements. Choose a practical combination instead of treating all three as activities immediately beside the ship. Keep the cruise line's return deadline separate from any local excursion's advertised finish time.

MSC's published summer 2026 programme includes Katakolon in its repeating MSC Fantasia eastern Mediterranean schedule. This supports the regular line reference without relying on a single call or a historical port photograph. Scheduled visits remain subject to alteration. The official coordinate represents Katakolon generally, not one pier's passenger gate.
