About us Nordnorge
Nordnorge is the 1997-built Kværner Kleven vessel named for northern Norway. Its permanent IMO number is 9107784, separating it from earlier coastal ships that carried the same name. Current insurer Gard records 11,384 gross tonnage under the Norwegian flag. The operator publishes 123.3 metres length and 19.5 metres beam, with 211 cabins.
The ship has a particular place in broadcasting history. In June 2011, Norway's public broadcaster NRK followed its journey from Bergen to Kirkenes live. NRK's own annual report records 134 hours, 42 minutes and 45 seconds of coverage, with viewers greeting the ship from shores, boats and quays. This was a specific television production rather than a permanent onboard entertainment programme. It illustrates why the changing coast and port routines can themselves be central to the appeal of a voyage.
Today's accommodation reflects later work. The operator lists refurbishments in 2016 and 2022, and the latest annual report identifies the vessel as non-hybrid. That should be kept separate from the shore-power connection capability now described for the whole fleet. An electrical connection in port requires compatible facilities; it does not describe the propulsion used throughout a coastal sailing.
A panoramic lounge and forward bar support sheltered sightseeing. The ship also has two outdoor hot tubs, a sauna and fitness room. Torget, Kysten and Brygga provide different meal settings, with Multe adding bakery and ice-cream options. Expedition-team presentations introduce Norwegian nature, culture and history. Compare fare conditions to establish the actual included dining and activities rather than assume the full list is covered in every booking.
The current FAQ explicitly gives a maximum of 452 guests, matching the latest annual report's capacity. This figure is not inferred by multiplying cabins. English and Norwegian are used for announcements and lectures, with Norwegian kroner for the onboard account. Like the wider Original Coastal Express, Nordnorge combines holiday travel with local transport and cargo work. Check the actual timetable before arranging independent visits: the length of a call is more useful than a port name alone when deciding how much can be seen ashore.
