About us Marella Discovery 2

Marella Discovery 2 started its passenger career in May 1995 as Royal Caribbean's original Legend of the Seas. It was built at Chantiers de l'Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, within the Vision family. The later Royal Caribbean ship sharing the Legend name is a different hull. The former ship's identity continues here through IMO 9070620.

The British programme introduced the ship as TUI Discovery 2 in May 2017, before the fleet adopted the Marella brand. Those changes did not create a new vessel. Current operator facts identify 69472 gross tonnage, a length of 264 metres, a width of 32 metres and Bahamas registry. The published accommodation inventory comprises 918 cabins.

An important recent completed project took place in November 2024 at Navantia in Cádiz. ALMACO's retrospective account confirms modernization of the hot galleys, including bakery and show-cooking work. The account was published in March 2025, which should not be confused with the actual project delivery date. This records completed work rather than a proposed future upgrade.

The operator's fleet guide identifies a move to adults-only sailings from November 2026. Compare the date of your departure carefully: an announced change is not a description of every earlier cruise. Further adult-focused concepts announced for the winter 2027 programme remain a later stage, rather than facilities assumed already delivered at the review date.

Current public facilities include an outdoor cinema, rock-climbing wall and minigolf. There are two pools, one indoors and one outside, alongside a spa and evening show lounge. Consider how the itinerary divides time ashore and aboard before deciding which facilities matter most for your trip.

Dining choices and the standard inclusive fare should be compared with the conditions of individual extras. A specialty meal or premium purchase can require an additional payment. Match accommodation category, confirmed route and embarkation arrangements together, leaving adequate time for independent transfers. Discovery 2's long history explains its original layout family; the present operator's programme and the specific sailing determine the holiday being offered.
